Art Cruises

The Inner and Outer Hebrides of Western Scotland are famous for their rare wildlife, spectacular mountains, island scenery and remote sea lochs. Our Scottish Island cruises  are perfect for sketching and painting with a knowledgeable skipper to guide you and a dedicated chef to serve you delicious meals.

Guests who wish to improve their sketching/painting skills with a tutor can do so with St Hilda Sea Adventures aboard one of our small ships.  If you choose to book a private art cruise on one of our small ships, we can, if you wish, customise your itinerary and stopovers.

You don't have to take advantage of the tutoring but if you would like to take part in the sessions please do let us know when you book your cruise.

One of our regular art tutors is:

Anthea Gage

Anthea Gage, RSW is a very experienced art tutor and has more than 30 years’ experience teaching artists of all ages and of all abilities.

During the cruises with Anthea, you will be discovering, through the use of several sketch books, how to record and capture the ever changing and beautiful Scottish seascapes around the boat, as well as ashore when appropriate. We will explore a wide variety of materials and techniques, from drawing with traditional media like pencils and oil pastels, to liquid watercolour painting, mixed media work and collage. The focus will be on developing individual skills and enjoying learning about new approaches to drawing and painting, using the sketch books to later produce a more finished and detailed work indoors.  There are several sheltered spots on deck to work outside as well as space in the main cabin area, and everyone is welcome to take part whether you are a beginner or a more experienced artist.
